Michigan is more than a place on our map. It is where pieces of our family story began — along the Great Lakes, in small towns, on sailboats, around kitchen tables, and on roads that eventually led far beyond the state line.

This film is a return to those beginnings and, especially, to the life of Roger — a teacher, sailor, traveler, father and grandfather whose curiosity never really allowed the compass to stop moving.

Through old photographs, familiar places, family memories and the stories hidden between them, we retrace a life that stretched from the shores of Lake Erie and Lake Michigan to adventures around the world.

Because sometimes the most important part of travel isn’t discovering somewhere new.

It is understanding where the journey began.
